MIMICS recently made separate donations through the American Red Cross and to UNICEF to help the many affected by hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria.
“Disasters like this make us realize how much we take our everyday safety and well-being for granted,” MIMICS CEO Lincoln Wildgrube said. “Our hearts and thoughts are truly with the many people affected by these disasters.”
Preliminary estimates of the damage done by the trio range from a staggering $150 billion to well over $300 billion. Puerto Rico could be without power for months, and some islands such as Barbuda were rendered uninhabitable.
Since 1881, the American Red Cross has been serving those in need, especially in times of need. They have provided over a half-million overnight stays for people displaced by Irma, and served nearly 1 million meals to them. 91 cents out of every dollar spent goes directly into humanitarian services and programs. 90 percent of donations to UNICEF go directly toward helping children; for Harvey relief, that figure was 100 percent. Efforts are wide-reaching and varied; in addition to food, shelter and counseling, UNICEF donations also go toward clothes, healthcare, educational and recreational materials for children affected.
