MIMICS Safekeeping System Overview
MIMICS Safekeeping System is designed to streamline the preparation of various tickets by ensuring accuracy and precision for all securities being held.
The system automates the payment processing to eliminate the need of manual calculations and other time consuming procedures. Holding many mortgage backed securities means manually calculating pay downs and interest payments. This can be incredibly time consuming, and if you are working with factors then you have to be aware of the payment delay.
The system allows FHLMC or fed factors import from third-party services such as DATAFEED. Alternatively, the user can enter the received payment. The system will then calculate the factor, and finally, it will distribute the principal and interest among your holders.
The system allows sub-accounting for downstream banks. The system will hold securities for the customers of your downstream bank, and generate reports on those customers for your client bank. Automated pledging and maturity of securities are available. The system can mature securities automatically on maturity date, or it can be manually matured. In either case, the system will let you know if the security is pledged.
The system allows for an easy set up of fee schedule for the services provided. First, set up the customer to be either hard dollar or soft dollar. Then set up the fee schedule. There can be several fee schedules for different customer groups if desired. The system will automatically calculate the fees. You can have fees for adding receipts, changing pledges, holding the securities, paying interest, and others. The fees can be flat, by receipt, by certificate, or by amount of par. If the fees are different by security types, then there can be a higher fee for holding municipals than for holding governments. In addition, periodic maintenance fees may be charged.
The system prepares maturity notices, interest and dividend advices, and coupon envelopes. Receipts are prepared for all new items entered to safekeeping.
The system is equipped with formatting capabilities for IRS 1099s and other tax forms for other tax authorities. Not only will the system prepare paper 1099s to send to your clients, but you can also write them in IRS electronic format or have the system automatically submit them over the Internet.
Reports can be seamlessly printed with the built-in report writer and data can be exported to other files. Perhaps one of the most flexible features is the report writer that will allow you to create your own reports and screens in minutes, and it will let you export data to other software such as spreadsheets and databases.
