MIMICS Portfolio Management System Overview
MIMICS Portfolio Management System is designed for portfolios of different sizes and complexity. Our system can be customized for personal, corporate, and financial institution portfolio management. The system manages equity, fixed income, and mortgage backed security holdings. You can segregate your securities and automatically prepare all of your compliance reporting. The system can interface with your own general ledger system according to your own accounting rules, and it can handle an unlimited size and number of portfolios.
The MIMICS Portfolio Management System is the tool you need to help manage your portfolio. MIMICS has been developing software for the banking and investment community since the 1970s, and we are highly knowledgeable in the area of securities processing.
As part of the standard processing, the system captures the trade returns on a daily basis. Therefore, returns for any period can be analyzed statistically. The system provides statistical data on averages, deviations, internal rate of return, curve shape, alpha and beta, Sharpe ratio, Treynor ratio, and others. These values are available on a screen display, on reports, and displayed as graphs. Duration and convexity of mortgage backed securities and CMOs are at your fingertips. The system projects your income and rate of return. It also calculates your tax obligation, and a set of convenient reports is provided.
The system has optional advanced Risk Analysis features, including calculating VaR and Volatility, graphing and analyzing the Yield Curve, performing Stress Testing and Rate Sensitivity analysis. The system can also track Credit Rating Risk.
Personal Portfolio
MIMIICS Personal Portfolio Management System maintains fixed income and equity securities. The system handles all types of fixed income securities, including mortgage backed securities and other derivatives. This version of the software maintains your holdings, income, and transaction history. The system projects your income and rate of return, and it also calculates your IRS tax obligation. As an added security, the system can assemble a set of convenient reports when needed.
The MIMICS Portfolio Management System provides an useful context-sensitive Help feature to assist in making choices during the entry process, and it also includes a standard Help system that allows you to look up various features by content. All data files are encrypted, and the system is password protected.
Customer Portfolio
MIMICS Customer Portfolio Management System is designed to allow you to track the portfolios of an unlimited number of customers. You can have any number of portfolios per customer, and each portfolio can contain an unlimited number of securities and currencies. Information regarding the type of portfolio; the portfolio manager, assistant and trader; and the customer’s investment goals can be easily saved when setting up the portfolios. The customer can request a certain distribution of investments between Security Types, Earning Types, or Industries. These requested guidelines can be saved as well. The portfolio can also be tied to a Benchmark Portfolio for performance comparison.
Corporate Portfolio
MIMICS Corporate Portfolio Management System maintains your fixed income, equity, and MBS portfolio holdings. It facilitates entry of your purchase, sale, and income transactions. Furthermore, the system provides price/yield calculations, tracks your transaction history, and calculates your IRS tax obligation. Any of your transactions can be posted to your General Ledger system through an easy interface. A Projected Cash Flow report provides you with the expected income of all of your holdings. Also included in this system are portfolio performance reports, as well as screens that allow you to drill down into the data.
For the General Ledger Exporting feature the system determines the entries to make based on your own accounting requirements, and the system will even pass entries to your GL or DDA systems without additional input on your part. For example, you may book payments on payment date, but maybe you don't book the payments until they are actually received. In this case, we can create a receivable from the paying agent and a payable to the particular portfolio. Whatever method you need to book your entries, the system can do it.
You can price your portfolios at any time using a pricing service, or you can price them manually if your portfolio is small. This pricing is used for providing "available for sale" posting for FASB 115 compliance for banks. Mortgage backed factors can also be imported from a service, in order to process MBS interest and principal payments.
Do you have trouble keeping up with your mortgage backed securities and CMOs? MIMICS handles all of these. We assist you with your pay downs to the point that all you do is contact the service providing you with the factors. We know the difference between a Freddie Mac and a Ginnie Mae - between a standard traunche CMO and a Z-bond. MIMICS handles both fixed interest bonds and floaters. The system handles not only all the fixed income securities, but also equities. We can even include Repos and Open Time Deposits.
All menu selections can be password protected. Even fields and buttons can be protected. Profiles can be established for various job functions.
Bank Portfolio
In the Bank Portfolio, all of the features of the Corporate Portfolio are provided with the addition of security pledging, safekeeping reports, and a number of distribution reports. Reports for FASB compliance are available for printing, and data is also prepared for Fed Call Reports.
You may need to pledge less than the entire block of a security. In this case, you can pledge part of the block to State Treasury deposits, some to deposits by the local school district, and still, you can determine how much is available for pledging to repos. If you have the MIMICS Repurchase Agreement System, you can quickly figure out what is available. This way, you can fully utilize your portfolio that usually just sits idle and doesn’t earn much.
Performance Measures screens are available for displaying portfolios and various performance measures, and the duration and convexity of mortgage backed securities and CMOs are a few clicks away.
Broker/Dealer Portfolio
For the Broker/Dealer Portfolio all of the features of the Bank Portfolio are available, in addition to the feature which allows you to manage multiple customer portfolios. The system can handle any number of portfolios. These portfolios can be for member banks in your holding company, or they can be customer portfolios. You can have your portfolios segregated into Available for Sale or Held to Maturity, or you can mix them in the same portfolio. Fed Call Reports are automatic, and reports can be consolidated for groups of portfolios. You can set up as many report groupings as you need. Do you want to amortize straight line or constant yield? Do you need to mix the accretion and amortization methods? Are you amortizing to maturity, to call, or to average life? Do you book monthly? Daily? Quarterly? The MIMICS Portfolio Management System does it all.
The system interfaces with the MIMICS Back Office System to generate purchases and sale confirmations.
Mutual Fund Management Portfolio
A version of the portfolio is available for mutual fund portfolio managers. Included are cash accounts, expense entry and posting, 12b-1 fees, additional tax reporting, NAV calculation, and all of the other features required. The system interfaces with the MIMICS Mutual Funds System.
Hedge Fund Management Portfolio
This software provides the features of the Mutual Fund Portfolio but adds margin accounts, short selling, and derivatives. See the MIMICS Hedge Fund System.
Optional Features
MIMICS provides an embedded report writer with which you can easily print reports for management or for your own use. You can export information from the History File to databases, spreadsheets or word processors.
